What makes a good sports bra?
During a long, intense workout, a good sports bra provides superior breast support, comfort, and moisture management. There are two ways bras minimize movement so as to provide the best protection.
1) Compression, the breasts are held snugly against the chest wall thereby limiting motion.
2) Encapsulation, the bra is designed to surround and support the breasts.
Bras can be designed to use both methods. Running is a high-impact activity; for the healthiest choice use a bra that provides the most support and least movement. Look for a well designed bra that is proportioned and is contoured to minimize chafing. Straps should not dig into the shoulders; the lower band should not shift or bind and should be level around the body.
A good sports bra will manage moisture by wicking prespiration away from your skin and using breathable fabrics. These fabrics allow you to stay cooler and drier when it's hot, and drier and warmer when it's cold.
